God's Values, Mission and Vision for St George's

Our Church council have taken several days to think about God's vision for us at St George's. The first day focused on God's values for his people and how he calls us to live. The second day began the process of seeking God's vision for our church here in Washington. This involves thinking about how we can best serve Jesus as we follow the values he teaches. It then considers the specific work we are are called to amongst all people in our local context.

Part of our vision is to build onto the North West corner to enable us to do much more than we currently can owing to limited space and facilities. We feel God calling to create a community cafe, new office, youth club and new entrance where people arrive at the church rather than hidden around the back. Our architect is working to come up with a new more compact design as sadly after much work, the fantastic plans which fulfilled the brief have been rejected by council planners, amongst other reasons, for being too large and visible. (which was kind of the point!...)

Church Mission

To be, make and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

To increase in knowledge and love of God, be united in the gospel, live daily lives of worship and love each other, our community and God's world..

In our values and mission day, we looked at many passages of scripture. We looked at what God calls all Christians everywhere to be and do. These were given out in both our Focus magazine and the APCM document. They can also be found below for everyone to spend time reading and praying about.

The values and mission God gives us are summed up with the great commission and the great commandment.

Matthew 28v19

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 22 v36

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
